About Santander

The port city of Santander is the capital of the autonomous community of Cantabria situated on the north coast of Spain. Mainly due to its coastal location, Santander enjoys extraordinarily beautiful landscapes. It stands on a peninsula enveloped by the bay and the cliffs facing the Cantabrian sea. But perhaps the beaches are its best-known natural feature. Five kilometres of meandering coastline reveal a varied collection of small and vast sandy stretches, some with calm waters, sheltered from the wind and others facing the open sea, with more of a swell. Close by, green areas of great beauty reach down to the coast.

Situated halfway between the sea and the mountains, Santander has beautiful surroundings with many possibilities for cultural and outdoors activities. The main tourist attractions of Cantabria are undoubtedly its landscape and privileged natural environment (nature lovers will find in Cantabria an impressive wealth of protected areas), together with its great artistic monuments, such as the many caves with prehistoric paintings, the roman village of Julióbriga, the medieval village of Santillana del Mar, and many more.
